About Terramusa

Melissa at Desk

Welcome to Terramusa. I am Melissa Barnett, and my obsession with gemstones and jewels began when I was a little girl, growing up in Australia’s Pilbara region.

Today, I design and create Terramusa pieces with a clear image of a woman in mind. The woman who effortlessly draws your attention and admiration.

She celebrates her individuality, and radiates an easy, unwavering confidence.

She is adventurous, generous, and down to earth.

“Each Terramusa piece is designed to be worn. Your personal talisman. With everyday being the appropriate occasion.”

I have a deep love for high jewellery, but not for its formality. I share the passion of the Australian prospectors and lapidarists who seek the remarkable spectrum of jewels found in our country.

Australia is a land of contrast, diversity, unique landscapes and remarkable raw beauty. We are a young country, with an ancient heritage and an optimistic future. We live in an endless summer, with sunlight that soaks into the landscape and the people. A kaleidoscope of vivid colours and textures, my pieces celebrate and reflect that.

Workshop Drill Bits
“I like to imagine Terramusa pieces being unearthed, 1,000 years from now, and the finder still being compelled to try the piece on, to wear it for themselves.
Workshop Pliers

22ct Virgin Australian Gold is my favourite medium. I use 22ct in many of my pieces for its gorgeous colour and lustre. I love to contrast it with bright Argentium.

I make a considered number of pieces each collection in my workshop in Perth, Western Australia. It can take years to perfect the design and source just the right gemstones for each bespoke piece. I confess I am in no rush. These gems have waited eons to be found, they’re not to be hurried or hustled.

If you discover a piece here that resonates with you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always excited to share more about the origin and inspiration behind each creation.

“Terramusa acknowledges and commemorates our country, honouring the deep connection to land and waters nurtured by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for thousands of generations. We respect elders, past, present, and emerging, and their enduring relationship with this ancient land. Through recognition, we commit to respecting their rich culture and tradition.”
